Abstract

554,861. Work-holders. PAPWORTH, Ltd., and SEALEY, L. E. Nov. 10, 1941, No. 14436. [Class 83 (iii)] A work table b is mounted so that it is rotatably adjustable about its own axis and also has compound adjustments about two other mutually perpendicular axes, the latter adjustments being determined by sine bars. The base plate e carries a pillar 51 carrying the pivot pin d of a swingable shaft c. The compound adjustments are made about the axes of members c, d, respectively, the table being carried by a support a having hangers embracing the shaft c, the outer end of which is supported in a block g connected to a linkage system associated with an arm a<SP>1</SP>, the link system being clamped in any adjusted position, Fig. 2, by a pin z. Stop members on the base coact with stops j, jl, k on the support a to determine datum positions of the table. A sine bar f<SP>1</SP> may be attached at either side of the pin d or to an extension c<SP>2</SP> concentric with shaft c but fixed to support a. The table periphery is graduated, Fig. 1, and has pairs of slots which in the zero position are respectively parallel to the centre lines of members c, d. The angular table position on the support a is secured by a clamping band controlled by a screw p. The stops j, n, Fig. 6, determine a table adustment of 45 degrees about the shaft c while a swing of 90 degrees in the opposite direction is determined by stops k, l. Horizontal positions are obtained by the use of abutment slips such as h, Fig. 10. If an adjustment about axis of pin c is required the sine bar f<SP>1</SP> is mounted on extension c<SP>2</SP> and set horizontally, Fig. 10, by the use of a predetermined abutment g<SP>1</SP>. Angular settings are now made by building up the abutment g<SP>1</SP> by gauge strips to a height determined from sine bar tables and setting the table so that the disc d<SP>1</SP> again rests on the abutment. The table is then clamped to shaft c. For adjustment about axis of pin d the sine bar is mounted at either end of said pin and the required gauge blocks placed on the base abutment h<SP>1</SP>.
