Abstract

554,327. Shelters for passenger queues ; posts. HARDY & PADMORE, Ltd., and GUISE, C. May 23, 1942, No. 7069. [Class 20 (i)] A shelter for passenger queues comprises a post or posts, a braced cantilever roof framework extending from the post or posts and means to drain the roof into the post or posts. The roof framework is formed of channel section bars 18 held in a position sloping from its free edge towards the posts 10 by ties 14 and struts 15, the free edges of the bars 18 adjacent each post projecting through apertures in the sides of the posts to allow drainage water to enter the post whence it flows outwardly at ground level through other spacings 10a. The framework is also supported on the posts by angle brackets 22 and the posts may be provided with caps 12. The posts may be braced together by inclined ties 23 and struts 25 and a guard rail 26 may be provided for the shelter space. The shelter roof may extend on both sides of the posts and when a single post is used the shelter roof may be of circular form like an umbrella. The posts may be of circular section or as shown in Fig. 8 formed from opposed channel bars 27 with their free edges welded together. The roof plating 19 may be ot metal, glass, asbestos-cement or the like and is secured to the framework by U- shaped bolts and nuts.
