Abstract

553,901. Locking nuts. ROBERTSON, E. R. Feb. 13, 1942, No. 2300/43. Divided out of 557,351. [Class 89 (i)] A sheet metal nut has a base portion and a tapped body portion provided at the end remote from the base with means for securing one or more wires to render the nut self-locking. The base may be upwardly or downwardly flanged at 3 and shaped to fit a spanner, or may be formed so that the nut may be employed as an annular nut. The body 2 is preferably outwardly flanged at 4, the flanges being slotted to receive two wires 6, arranged tangentially of the threads preferably curved to suit the bolt, and locked in place by bending over the ends at 7<1>. A U-shaped wire or a single wire may be employed and the wire may be of elliptical or triangular section. Specification 536,862 is referred to.
