Abstract
553,884. Thermionic impedances. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Jan. 7, 1942, No. 273. Convention date, Jan. 7, 1941. [Class 40 (v)] The effective value of an inductive, capacitive or resistive impedance is varied with variation in the transconductance of an electron discharge device. The impedance is connected in parallel with the grid cathode path and in series with an unbypassed resistance in the cathode lead. The arrangement may be used to vary the common coupling impedance in a band-pass network to control band-width or for the remote control of tuning. Fig. 4 shows the application to a filter network in which coupling condenser 24 is varied by control of the anode voltage of the valve 30. In a modification both the screen and anode voltages are varied to control the transconductance, Fig. 2 (not shown). Fig. 6 shows an arrangement in which the signal and local oscillator circuits 40, 52, respectively, of a superheterodyne receiver are controlled by capacitive reactances 71, 72 which may be controlled from a remote point by potentiometer 101.
