Abstract
553,366. Bolting. LINDSAY, H. Sept. 9, 1942, No. 12696. Addition to 461,953. [Class 89 (i)] [Also in Groups X and XXX] In the method of clamping together girders and profile bars as described in the parent Specification using hook adapters as described in Specification 411,400, the girders or bars are separated from metallic contact by a layer or layers of material to deaden vibration, improve insulation, and/or increase the relative sideways grip between the girders in a direction perpendicular to the centre line of the bolts. The packings may be laminated to combine two or more of the properties. For connecting girders at right angles strip packings 6, Figs. 1 and 2, are folded round the flanges. The bolts are located by spacing plates 4. When the girders are inclined at an acute angle diamond-shaped packings are employed. When T-bars are clamped at an inclination on either side of a column, flat packing plates are employed and the bolts may be surrounded with insulating sleeves. The application to clamping angles and channels to girders is also illustrated, and in some cases two narrow strips of packing may be employed located at the bolts.
