Abstract

553,170. Fluxes; uniting by fusion. ARC MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd., HAIM, G., and McALLISTER, D. Nov. 3, 1941, No. 14163. [Class 82 (ii)] [Also in Group XXII] A plastic composition for coating metal welding rods, particularly those of non-ferrous metals such as aluminium, comprises materials acting as fluxes in the welding operation and a binder of gelatinous alumina which has the consistency of thick cream and has a pH value of 6-9. The electrodes are coated by dipping or extrusion, and in the latter case, the coating on the electrode is dried by heating to 120-200‹C. In an example a plastic composition comprises 3 parts by weight of a flux containing 30 per cent. weight of sodium chloride, 30 of potassium chloride. 15 of lithium fluoride and 25 of cryolite, and 1 part of gelatinous alumina. Specifications 314,400, [Class 82 (ii)], 481,969 and 519.619, [both in Group III], are referred to.
