552,236. Linear-dimension gauges. AKTIEBOLAGET SVENSKA KULLAGER FABRIKEN. Feb. 16, 1942, No. 2073. Convention date, March 12, 1941. [Class 106 (ii)] A gauging contact is interposed between the plunger of a dial gauge and the work support having a support which is movable with the plunger parallel thereto for a travel greater than the field covered by the dial gauge, a space being afforded to provide lost-motion between the plunger and gauging contact.prior to a gauging operation. In Fig. 1, a sleeve 7 adjustably clamped to a pillar 10 rising from a base 9 on which is a work support 8 carries by parallel blade springs 5, 6 a support 4 for a dial gauge 1, the support 4 being provided with a workengaging contact 3. An arm 16 projecting from the sleeve 7 has a contact with which the plunger 2 of the dial gauge may engage. The support 4 is normally held up by a string spring 11 which may be withdrawn from the support .4 by a lever 14 and link 13 to allow the contact 3 to engage the work. In use there is considerable clearance between the work 15 and the contact 3 and when the spring 11 is withdrawn the contact 2 engages the arm 16 just before the contact 3 engages the work. In a modification, the instrument 1 is carried by arm 16 its plunger extending upwards to be engaged by a lateral extension of the part 4 just before the contact 3 engages the work. In a further modification, a screw thread gauge, Fig. 5, a work-engaging contact 24 forming a calliper gap with a fixed feeler 23 is carried by a movable support 25, 22 mounted on parallel leaf springs 27. The support 25 has an adjustable spindle 30 the end 33 of which engages the plunger 32 of the instrument 31. A leaf spring 37 adjustable by a screw 38 and lever 36 exerts an initial pressure on the contact 24. A second adjustable spindle 39 having a coned end 40 engaging a V-notch 41 limits movement of the part 25 and may be screwed hard into the notch for transport purposes. An adjustable locating support or supports 22 for the work may be provided.
