Abstract

552,232. Road marking blocks. UNIVERSAL RUBBER PAVIORS, Ltd., and GAISMAN, L. Oct. 15, 1941, Nos. 13296/41, 13458/41, 14243/41, 15047/4 and 734/42. [Class 87 (i)] [Also in Group XVIII] A road marking reflector device comprises a metal block 17 combined with a rubber member 21 fitted with lenses 24, the block having one or more protective metal bars 19 extending across the top and standing above the level of the road. The bars 19 may be connected by a transverse web or webs 18, and in this case the member 21 is made up of two parts. The rubber member is inserted from beneath and is retained either by overlapping corners at the base of the side openings in the block, or by a bottom plate welded or otherwise fixed in position. The under side of the member 21 is made concave, or rests on feet, so that pressure on top of the rubber depresses same and causes any water which may have accumulated below the member to squirt up through channels opening out beneath the reflectors 24, and thus cleanse them. The water space may alternatively comprise a cavity in the rubber member, the bottom of which is flat. The reflectors are bedded in recesses in the member 21, the member being longitudinally slit below the recesses so that they can be opened out to receive and release the reflectors. The block 17 may be fitted with a triangular leg 25 at each corner, and these may be complemented by similar legs on the retaining base plate.
