[Class 32] [Also in Groups XIII and XII] A water-cooler, condenser, absorber or distillation column consists of superposed hollow intercommunicating lenticular discs having rounded inner and outer peripheries along the interior surfaces of which liquid flows to a bottom outlet. The lower part of a distillation column is heated by a steam jacket q and the liquid to be distilled is supplied to the top of the column, through a central pipe t. The ascending vapour is cooled by water flowing over the upper discs a<SP>2</SP>, and uncondensed vapour is discharged through a top outlet j and condensate through a bottom outlet v.
