Abstract
550,860. Respiratory appliances. BOOTHBY, W. M. March 29, 1940, No. 5692. Convention date, Dec. 14, 1939. [Class 81 (ii)] A mask adapted for the breathing of mixtures of gases and for use in low temperatures, e.g. an oxygen mask, is provided with an opening communicating with the atmosphere occluded by a body of porous non-conducting material e.g. sponge rubber. A layer of sponge rubber may also be attached at the face engaging parts of the mask 20 that it is interposed between the mask body and the face. In a construction shown in Figs. 1 and 7 a body of sponge rubber 35 is disposed in a turret-like extension 32 below which is a tube 23 carrying a rebreathing bag 26 into which extends an oxygen supply pipe 41. In a form shown in Fig. 10 the outlet to atmosphere is constituted by perforations 54, in a tube 53, which are surrounded by a sponge rubber sleeve 55. A sheet of sponge rubber 106 may be provided as shown in Fig. 1 to provide a non-conducting bearing surface for the face of the wearer. Specifications 551,608 and 551,609 are referred to
