Abstract
548,653. Bolts. SMALLPEICE, C. D.P. Dec. 2, 1941, No. 15501. [Classes 89(i) and 89(ii)] [Also in Group XXIII] Bolts, grub screws &c. have an axial relatively deep recess 11 and relatively narrow lateral recesses 12 extending wholly or in part across the head. The recesses are concave at 13 to facilitate formation by a milling-cutter. When the heads are located in a counter-bored recess they may be locked by a strip 18 of a length somewhat greater than that of the lateral recesses, the ends preferably being sharpened to engage the sides of the counter-bore. A central hole 19 facilitates removal. The bolts are screwed up by a wrench having pegs 14 to fit the recess 11 and one or more wings 15 to fit the recess 12, those on one side fitting the shallow recesses that extend right across the head and those on the other the deeper recesses that extend only part way across. A modified wrench is made from a cranked rod 20 having the formations 14, 15 at one or both ends. The rod may have a section corresponding to the parts 14, 15 throughout. In a further modification a sixarmed tool has the end of each arm formed to suit a different size of bolt. Specification 525,695 is referred to.
