Abstract
548,445. Electromagnetic relays. LANDIS & GYR SOC. ANON. July 18, 1941, No. 9118. Convention date, July 20, 1940. [Class 38 (v)] Relays of the plate armature or other type which are responsive to special frequencies of AC. superposed on a network and are connected to the network through a rectifier are made so that they " release" at a voltage comparatively little below that at which they attract by the use of resistances. In the form shown in the Figure, the relay R responds to current in the tuned circuit 5 and in addition to operating main contacts r<SP>1</SP> moves a switch r<SP>2</SP> so that a resistance 9 is substituted for a rectifier 8. Thus the amount of D.C. current traversing the relay is reduced. In modifications the relay has two coils and operates to switch a resistance in parallel with a rectifier, or it may remove a short-circuit from the resistance. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 also describes other modifications, in which a reverse winding is energized upon Operation of the relay, or is permanently connected to the network. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
