Abstract
547,578. Tanks. MOTHERWELL BRIDGE & ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., LAWMAN, C. W., and MILLER, A. R. May 1, 1941, No. 5668. Addition to 531,544. [Class 69 (i)] The storage tank of the parent Specification is provided with stiffening members for the walls thereof. Gusset plates 1, Figs. 1 and 2, are arranged within the tank, preferably within each trough or corrugation of the side walls 2 and welded to the walls and to the floor plates 3. Externally the walls may be stiffened by flat anchor plates 4, Figs. 1 and 3, with vertical legs embedded in the concrete foundation 5 and supported by angle bars 6, and horizontal arms overlying the floor plates 3 and welded to the wall plates ; angle bars 8 may be welded across the ridges of the wall plates, and bear down on the anchor plates. The upper edges of the walls are strengthened by Z-shaped cover plates 9, Fig. 4, preferably welded thereto and which may be integral, or built-up of welded plates, preferably with the horizontal web extending inwardly and welded to the roof joists 17, angle ties and gusset plates of the roof ; the roof plates 11 may be riveted to the webs of the plates 9. The corners of the tank may be strengthened by diagonal bracing plates 14, 15, and by strips 16 welded to the ridges of the wall plates inside the tank.
