Abstract
546,449. Electrically heated kilns. MOORE, B. J., and MOORE, B. C. July 3, 1941, No. 8379. [Class 39 (iii)] The electric heating elements are placed in position and removed through openings 14 in the side walls of a kiln. Each side wall consists of brickwork 15, heat insulating bricks and/or blocks, or diatomaceous earth, 16, 17, and fireclay blocks 18. Each heating element 19 comprises a grid 20 formed of strip .metal placed on edge, with further strips 30 on the terminal portions which project through the wall of the kiln. The elements rest on the blocks 18, which may be flat or ribbed, or the elements may be provided with feet to raise them above the blocks. The openings 14 are sealed by fireclay blocks 22 with handles 23, and by blocks 24 of diatomaceous earth having recesses in their lower edges for the current conductors. The blocks 22, 24 may be wrapped with paper containing china clay which leaves a dressing of china clay after burning. The blocks 24 may be replaced by powdered kieselguhr, slag wool or asbestos, with outer retaining blocks. Groups of such resistances may be provided, and also a spare group which may be connected up if required.
