Abstract
546,156. Protractors. HILL, D. B. April 16, 1941, No. 4933. [Class 97 (iii)] Relates to instruments situated at a control centre whereby the bearing, angle of elevation, and range of a stationary or moving object having been ascertained at two positions in a certain area and communicated to the control centre the data for other positions in that area are automatically determined and may be communicated to such other positions. At the control centre two instruments as shown are fixed representing to scale the positions in the certain area from which the data are communicated to the control centre and the horizontal plates 8 are adjusted to the levels of those positions to scale by screw 6 and nuts 5. The vertical plates 11 are moved in azimuth to the bearings ascertained by means of guides 10 and a vertical adjuster 13 provided with a wire carrier 16 is rotated so that the plotting wire 19 indicates the ascertained angle of elevation. The point of intersection of the plotting wires of the two instruments then indicates to scale the position of the stationary or moving object and if the plotting wire or wires of other instruments representing other positions in the certain area are brought to the said intersection the data i.e. the bearings, angles of elevation and the range for such positions can be read off and communicated to such positions.
