545,865. Printing surfaces. ADDRESSOGRAPHMULTIGRAPH CORPORATION. Sept. 2, 1941, No. 11231. Convention date, Jan. 17, Drawings to Specification. [Class 100 (ii)] A sheet metal printing plate, e.g. an address plate, of the kind having characters embossed thereon so as to be in unreversed intaglio type on the back of the plate, the plate, before embossing, is provided with a matt surface on one or both surfaces so that in the embossing operation, the characters are burnished and are thus more readily readable against the matt background. The matt surface may be produced by pressure in a rolling mill, sand blasting, wire brushing, or etching, e.g. in the case of zinc with a solution of 1 ounce of potassium bichromate, 4 ounces of nitric acid of 36<SP>0</SP> Be and 4 ounces of sulphuric acid of 66‹ BÚ to 1 gallon of the solution.
