545,680. Storage water heaters ; heat insulation. WORCESTER WINDSHIELDS & CASEMENTS, Ltd., and SOUTHALL, H. March 17, 1941, No. 3614. [Classes 64 (i) and 64 (ii)] The jacket of a storage water heater is filled with insulating material, e.g. granulated cork, by first filling the annular space 6 with a measured quantity through a funnel which fits the top when the cover 7 is removed. During this operation the heater is placed on a mechanically vibrated platform. The cover is then fitted and a smaller funnel applied to the opening 12 from which the plate 14 is removed. A measured quantity of insulating material is poured in while vibrating, so that the jacket is completely filled. A vent cap 10 is then screwed on to a vent tube 9 to retain the plate 14 in position. If the water heater is of the pressure type with an expansion pipe in place of the vent tube 9, the opening 12 is closed by a two-part cover fitted around the pipe.
