Abstract
544,959. Valve generating circuits. COOKE, D. Dec. 11, 1940, No. 17577. [Class 40 (v)] A generator for use as a wavemeter or as the drive oscillator of a transmitter comprises means to produce a high frequency oscillation which is modulated non-sinusoidally by a lower frequency oscillation the high frequency oscillation being accurately tunable and continuously variable between two frequencies the difference between which is equal to the frequency of the lower frequency oscillation. In this way a plurality of waves spaced apart by the frequency of the lower frequency oscillator is obtained and these are moved in the spectrum by variation of the high frequency oscillator. The Figure shows a triode-hexode the hexode portion of which is back-coupled by the coil e and tunable by condenser C2 over a range of say 3-3.1 mc. while the triode portion oscillates at say 10 kc In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the triode portion of the valve may be switchable to operate at a higher frequency say 1mc. and the hexode reaction coil be shorted so that a rough calibration of the apparatus under test may be made from the harmonics generated. A separate oscillator may be used feeding a pair of hexode valves. in push-pull, Fig. 3 (not shown), so that spurious results due to side-band frequencies and harmonics may be avoided.
