Abstract
544,753. Fluid actuated valves. GORDON & CO., Ltd., J., and SCHPPERS, J. F. Jan. 3, 1941, No. 106. Addition to 544,643. [Class 135] The invention of the parent Specification is modified by providing three or more pressure sensitive members jointly operating to control the inlet and outlet valves in the chamber connected to a pressure sending line so that changes in the controlling pressures produce rapid variations in the pressure in the said chamber. As shown, the device comprises six chambers A ... F spaced by three diaphragms 16, 17, 151. Bellows 28, 29, 152, 153 seal the chambers from one another. The three diaphragms are secured together by a rod 18 in which is formed an outlet valve seating 21 for the end of a valve member 40. The other end 39 of the valve member 40 co-operates with a fixed seating 38 to form an inlet valve for a source of fluid pressure to the chamber D. Bore 42 in the rod 18 leads to the atmosphere and the valve member 40 is biased by a spring 46. The sending pressure in the pipe 15 is used for controlling temperature or pressure regulating means. A pipe 66 connected to B maintains a predetermined loading pressure. A thermostat at 68 controls a valve in pipe 67 and varies the pressure in C, F, according to temperature. Pipe 67 is also connected to E through a needle valve 154 and to a volume tank 71. A is connected to pipe 15 through a needle valve 69. In operation, variation of temperature causes by means of the thermostat 68 change of pressure in F and C. This produces a large change of pressure in D and the control makes a corresponding large initial movement. Meanwhile the pressure in E approaches and thus neutralizes the effect of the pressure in F. Thus the temperature is quickly restored to that preset by the valve of the loading pressure in the pipe 66. If desired the chambers F, E may receive pressure impulses, not from piping 67, but from different conditions known to have an influence on the system.
