Abstract

544,287. Ignition systems. PLESSEY CO., Ltd., and STUBBS, H. V. G. Nov. 2, 1940, Nos. 16014/40 and 1189/41. [Class 7 (iv)] In a high-frequency ignition system, the secondary and primary L4, L3 of the transformer feeding the load circuit are tightly coupled and the number of turns in the secondary L4 is adjusted so that in association with the capacity of the load circuit it forms a parallel-resonant circuit whereby exact or approximate tuning is obtained. As shown, the magneto primary Ll is provided with a circuit breaker G1 and shunt condenser C1, and the secondary L2 is in circuit with the transformer primary L3 through a spark gap G2, a shunt condenser C2 being provided. The transformer secondary L4 is connected to the spark-gap distributer D and plugs P through leads which are preferably shielded. The transformer may be air-cored or may be wound on the magneto coil ; some of the windings of a standard magneto may be removed prior to the winding of the transformer primary and secondary. The primary is preferably of low D.C. resistance and low A.C. impedance. Specification 458,592 is referred to.
