543,625. Road materials. STANDARD OIL DEVELOPMENT CO. Oct. 9,1940, No. 15045. Convention date, Oct. 10, 1939. [Class 22] A cold-laid paving mixture is made by mixing a powdered brittle asphalt with a mineral flux oil containing a wetting agent and adding a mineral aggregate. Activating and conditioning agents may also be added to the flux oil. Wetting agents include oleic, palmitic, stearic, linoleic, linolenic, abietic, rosin, sulphonic, naphthoic mono-carboxylic, anthracene mono-carboxylic, naphthenic and asphatic acids and their salts. Conditioning agents include sodium hydroxide, sodium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate, sodium silicate, lime, hydrochloric acid and sulphuric acid. Activating agents include chlorides, nitrates, acetates, sulphates, chlorides, oxides and hydroxides of various metals. To the mixture containing aggregate may be added fatty oils containing free .fatty acids and also water-soluble soaps such as sodium or potassium sulphonates, naphthenates and oleates.
