Abstract
543,020. Automatic guns. REVELLI, G., and NASTURZIO, F. E. Dec. 8, 1939, No. 31839. Convention date, Dec. 21, 1.938. [Class 119] An automatic gun of the short-recoil type has a breech-bolt locking-pawl one end of which is pivotally seated in a recess in the barrel-extension, the other end engaging a notch in the outside of the bolt, the pawl being locked to the block by one arm of a bell-crank lever the other arm of .which engages a fixed stop during the period of short recoil. The breech bolt 3 is locked to the barrel-extension 2 by a detent 4 the rear end of which is hinged to the barrelextension the front end engaging a notch 6 in the bolt under the influence of the arm 12 of a spring-controlled bell crank lever 14 mounted to rock in the barrel-extension. On recoil of the locked barrel and breech bolt against the action of a coil spring 20, the arm 13 of the bell crank engages a fixed abutment 18 and the arm 12 then engages a shaped projection 19 on the detent to unlock the bolt which then recoils alone against the pressure of a spring-controlled rod 8 acting through the firing pin 7. On return, the firing pin is caught by the sear 25 whilst the breechbolt goes forward for closing and locking the breech. A safety detent 28 normally held from the path of the bent 24 by the arm 13 prevents firing except when the detent 4 is in locking position.
