542,331. Synthetic resin compositions. INTERNATIONAL LATEX PROCESSES, Ltd. July 26, 1940, No. 12184. Convention date, July 29, 1939. [Class 2 (iii)] An adhesive comprises latex and a heathardenable reaction product of a m-arylene diamine, e.g. m-phenylene diamine or a meta tolylene diamine, with an aldehyde, e.g. formaldehyde, acetaldehyde furfural or paraldehyde. By latex is meant coagulable aqueous dispersions of rubber or synthetic rubbers prepared from butadiene or its halogen substituted products and includes artificially prepared dispersions thereof as well as natural latex. The compositions may be used for bonding rubber to materials such as cotton, asbestos, wood or synthetic fibres of glass, rayon or nylon, for bonding non-rubber parts together, e.g. bonding synthetic plastics, and for bonding parts made of different types of rubber or synthetic rubber. In examples, the adhesives are prepared by adding together (a) aqueous suspensions of products obtained by re-acting formaldehyde, furfural or paraldehyde with m-phenylene diamine or 1:2:4- tolylene diamine in an aqueous medium which may contain acetic or formic acid, and (b) aqueous dispersions of rubber, chloroprene or "Perbunan" (Registered Trade Mark) and a stabilizer, with or without sulphur, zinc oxide, an accelerator and an anti-oxidant.
