[Class 83 (iv)] An apparatus for bending sheet metal, wire &c. comprises a pair of jaws forming part of or attached to the jaws of a vice and a bending plate pivoted to one of the jaws so as to swing about the inner top edge thereof and overlie the other jaw when the vice is closed. The work holding jaws c, e may be secured by screws b through elongated slots to the jaws of a screw-adjusted vice a. The jaws c, e, may be provided with a pair of set screws engaging the top of the vice jaw so as to adjust the jaws vertically to provide for different gauges of sheet. To brackets on the jaw e is pivoted at f the bending plate g which has an operating handle h. The sheet is placed within the jaws preferably against adjustable depth stops. After clamping the sheet bending is effected by moving the plate g on its pivots. The angle of bend may be determined by an adjustable stop. For bending wires the jaw c may have vertical grooves in its vertical face and the upper face of the plate g may be similarly grooved or provided with adjustable guides. The jaws may also be provided with strips for use in bending channels, D-sections, &c. In a modivcation, the jaws c may be in two adjustable parts and provided with plain or grooved removable rollers i, Fig. 5, the plate g, Fig. 6, having an overhanging removable roller n mounted on a detachable plate p. U bends may be formed by operating the vice screw. For effecting a bend greater than a U, such as a ring, a lever may be pivotally mounted on the pin o and provided with a roller to engage the work. In curling the edge of a strip x, Fig. 8, the plate g may be provided with a clamping plate v and a packing piece w and the strip placed against the packing piece and the plate g operated by the handle h. The bend may be effected against a roller fixed between the jaws.
