[Class 52 (ii)] A convertible bed chair or settee comprises two side frames 1, Fig. 1, and three upholstered substantially oblong frames 2, 3, 4 constituting respectively the seat, back rest and an extensible element, the extensible element being hinged to the top of the back rest and extending between the side frames so that a pair of legs 11 project into the space beneath the seat, and the back rest being so hinged as to permit forward swinging thereof as well as backward swinging in order to facilitate conversion to a bed or couch. The seat 2 and back rest 3 are independently pivoted to the side frames by L-shaped arms and pins 8, and extension 4 are connected by hinges 5. To convert the chair into a bed, the back rest and extension are swung forward to clear a supporting rail 10 and are then swung backwards and extended until they are horizontal as shown in Fig. 2, with the legs 11 resting on the ground. A foldable leg 23 gives intermediate support. Panels 19, 14 slid upwardly into position during assembly, and a horizontal panel 13 are provided. These panels together with a base panel 21 form a receptacle 18 accessible by raising the seat, and a compartment to receive the legs 11. In a modification, Figs. 13 and 14 (not shown), the legs 11 are received within separate side compartments and the panel 14 is situated further to the rear. Transport and ready assembly of the bed chair is facilitated by the oblong shape of the frames and panels, and by the provision of hinged and sliding connections between the parts.
