Abstract
540,369. Gelatine. AKTIESELSKABET DANSK GAERINGS-INDUSTRI. Feb. 3, 1940, No. 2172. Convention date, Feb. 11, 1939. Drawings to Specification. [Class 121] Gelatine is extracted from ossein by the use of a hot aqueous extraction liquid having a pH value outside the range 5 to 8, and within the ranges 2 to 5 and 8 to 12. The preliminary treatment of ossein with lime may be omitted or shortened. The ossein may be first treated with sulphurous acid or with peroxides. The pH value, measured when the extraction liquid has been cooled to ordinary temperature, is maintained constant during the extraction by addition of an acid or a base or of buffer substances, which may be in the case of alkaline liquids, mixtures of sodium borate and hydrate or of ammonia and ammonium chloride and in the case of acid liquids, may be mixtures of a salt of a weak acid such as acetates or sodium citrate with the same or a stronger acid.
