Abstract
539,522. Coating bakers' goods. GIBBS, S. T., and BAKER PERKINS, Ltd. March 12, 1940, No 4633. [Class 28 (i)] [Also in Group III] Two rotary brushes 11, 12 spray oil on biscuits carried between them by an openwork wire conveyer band 5. The oil is pumped from a reservoir 24 to troughs 14, and falls in streams over heightadjustable double-sawtoothed (17, 18) weir plates 15 on to the brushes. The brushes may be replaced by spaced discs having serrated peripheries or by cylindrical members having pins secured therein. The brushes may be formed on a perforated core, the trough and weir being mounted within the core. The bristles of the brushes may touch the lower edges 18 of the weir plates. The weir plates may be fixed and the troughs adjustable. The upper brush and trough are enclosed in a hood 26 having oil-collecting perforated gutters 27 from which the oil drops into a drip tray 23 delivering by pipe 25 into the reservoir 24. The hood has an air-vent 41 with baffles 42 which trap oil escaping with the air. The supply of oil to the troughs is controlled by valves 36, 37, surplus oil being returned to the reservoir by a byepass 38.
