Feb. 2, 1940, Nos. 2043/40 and 2254/41: [Class 20 (iv)] [Also in Group V] A method of clothing or encasing the flanged elements of a steel frame for a. building consists in supplying blocks which are so shaped that they can be passed over the flanges and then partly rotated to interlock them with the flanges, the blocks being arranged in contact with one another along the flanges with a part of each one overlapping the adjacent block. The blocks may be cast in concrete or they may be made of other suitable material. Each block B, Figs. 1 and 5, comprises a base 1 of rhomboidal shape, and two upper parts 2, 3, which are separated by a gap slightly wider than the width of the flange of a girder A. Each part 2, 3 is undercut at 5 to a shape corresponding to the edge of the flange. When applying a. block to a girder, the flange passes between the parts 2, 3. The block is then rotated in the direction of the arrow x until the parts 2,. 3 meet the web, and the block is then moved along the flange into contact with the next block. Other blocks may be placed on the blocks B to complete the encasing of the girder, and filler pieces may be added if required. The blocks are grouted or cemented together in known manner. The blocks may be reinforced by bars 9 and the parts 2, 3 may be rectangular or triangular in shape. Some of the blocks may have bases 1 with sides that are arcs of circles so that they may be rotated for removaleven when assembled side by side. When made of concrete they may be cast in a mould composed of sides 11, Fig. 21, and ends 12 slotted to receive a half joist 13. Sheet metal partitions 15 are placed in the mould and separated by wooden spacers 14.
