Abstract
538,063. Screening apparatus. LEVER BROS. & UNILEVER, Ltd., BARBER, C. O., and TROTTER, R. L. Jan. 17, 1940, No. 1052. [Class 117] Fish are graded according to their lateral dimensions by means of a reciprocating screen consisting of bars 12, Fig. 5, on edge spaced to form grading apertures of progressively increasing width. Preferably the grading apertures are formed between the bars 12 and rods 16 which are disposed below and midway of the bars and are adjustable relatively thereto to vary the width of the grading apertures. The screen is provided with a feeding platform with ribs in prolongation of the screen bars which function to align the fish with their lengths in the direction of movement over the screen. A hopper with internal baffles and an adjustable delivery opening is mounted on and moves with the screen. The screen is suspended on links and may be inclined or actuated with a slow forward and quick return motion or both to promote the forward movement of the fish, which may be sprayed with water, brine &c. during their passage over the screen to wash them and facilitate their movement.
