Abstract
537,238. Heating pitot tubes by electricity. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Dec. 12, 1939, No. 32055. Convention date, Dec. 13, 1938. [Class 39 (iii)] [Also in Group XXIX] An electric heating element for a pitot tube comprises a heating wire 23 spaced by insulation 25 from a heat conducting sheath 24, the wire and sheath being wound into a hollow coil which may be wound as in Fig. 3, on one section of the wire as a base. Adjacent tubes of said coil may be soldered or brazed together. The coil is enclosed in a metal sleeve 26 in contact with an outer metal tube 11 in which an opening 15 constitutes the velocity-pressure end of the pitot tube, the pressure being transmitted through a tube 19 having a front baffle 20 and notchedout opening 21 whereby entrance of foreign matter into the tube is prevented. The casing 14 is provided with apertures 16 for transmitting static pressure.
