536,900. Abrasive coated sheets. DUREX ABRASIVES, Ltd. Dec. 15, 1939, No. 32325. Convention date, Dec. 27, 1938. [Class 60] Flexible sheet material coated with a layer of abrasive by an adhesive protein bond such as glue or casein, e.g. sand-paper, is preserved by conditioning it in an atmosphere having a controlled humidity within the range 30 to 60 per cent. pH until it is in equilibrium therewith and hermetically sealing the material in a container having a similar atmosphere. A preferred bond is hide glue to which dextrines or starches may be added. The backing may be of cloth, paper, parchment, vulcanized fibre or a combination of these materials. The material may be in the form of sheets, discs or rolls. Containers are preferably of such a size as to leave a minimum of air space when filled, and may be sealed with adhesive tape which is then coated with molten paraffin wax.
