Abstract

535,489. Valves. KODAK, Ltd., DOUGLASS, W., and ELLIS, A. C. March 8, 1940, No. 4343. [Class 135] [Also in Group XXX] A device for controlling the flow of materials such as hard, flaky gelatine, grain, sand, treacle, tar and acids comprises a sleeve 6 of flexible material, such as twill, folded back on itself and secured at its ends to a pair of co-axially arranged rings 2, 3 which are relatively rotatable so as to open and close the sleeve without involving any axial movement of the rings. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the sleeve is secured to the ring 2 by a fillet 5 shaped to continue the internal surface of a hopper 1, and to the ring 3 by an annular plate 9. The ring 3 is rotatably secured below the ring 2 by a flanged ring 4 bolted, together with the plate 2, to the lower end'of the hopper 1. An actuating handwheel is secured to a depending flange in the ring 3. The lower ring may be fixed or the rings arranged to rotate in opposite directions. The rings may be arranged concentrically.
