Abstract
535,231. Milk &c. cartons. FREEMANTLE, H. R., and PERGA, Ltd. Oct. 30, 1939, Nos. 29004/39 and 7859/40. [Class 66] The folded mouths of milk and like cartons of paper &c. are sealed by means of a layer of amorphous paraffin wax, which is tacky at normal temperatures and to which the opposed paper &c. surfaces readily adhere upon pressure being applied thereto. The wax is applied preferably externally only, so as not to interfere with the nesting of the cartons, but in the carton shown in Fig. 2 the interior of the side adjacent to the flap 5 adapted to be bent over the folded mouth portion is also waxed. Fig. 4 shows one form of blank with the wax applied to the exterior where indicated; the blank folds as shown in Fig. 6, the closure flap formed by the parts 11, 12, being turned down and the wings 11a, 12a, bent over and applied to the waxed surfaces at the rear of the panels 6, 10. Instead of wax being applied to the mouth of the carton it may be applied to a separate sealing strip, for instance a strip 5a, Fig. 14, waxed on both sides, may be doubled over the inner folds of the mouth of an unwaxed carton of the kind shown in Fig. 2, the wings 5b securing the ends of the closure. Tearing strings may be provided for opening the closures.
