Abstract
534,493. Mixing-apparatus. PERMUTIT CO., Ltd. (Permutit Co,). Oct. 5, 1939, No. 27237. [Class 86] Apparatus for treating water with a reagent comprises a rotary shaft fitted with arms which co-operate with fixed baffles to promote vigorous mixing in one region, and with vanes in another region which produce a gentler motion to effect coagulation of the precipitate. The water and reagent are fed by pipes 14, 15 to the upper part of the inner chamber 11 of a vessel 10 and are thoroughly mixed by vanes 22 mounted on a shaft 16 and co-operating with fixed baffles 23; the vanes project from disc-like centres 21. The liquid passes downwards where it is gently stirred by vanes mounted between radial arms 24, 25, 26, 27, the vanes 28, 29, 30, 31 all sloping in the same direction and oppositely to the vanes 36, 37, 38, 39. The vanes 32, 33, 34, 35 have the same slope as the vanes 28, 29, 30, 31. The annular space 13 forms a settling chamber and the treated water is discharged by an overflow 40.
