[Class 112] A needle-threader mounted on the presser foot of a sewing machine comprises a thread-pusher 27 hinged upon a lever 31 pivoted at 32 and a latch plate 37 having a sliding-rocking pivot 38. The lever 31 and the latch plate are urged apart by a spring 35. Fig. 3, shows the device in its inoperative position. In operation, the thread is slipped by hand through a slot 22 into position in front of the pusher. The needle is moved into its lowest position and the latch plate 37 is moved by hand to the position shown in Fig. 4, where it is retained because a pin 43 is in a transverse portion of an L-shaped slot. In this condition, the pusher is urged by the spring 35 into the thread groove of the needle and when the needle is raised the pusher will pass, with the thread, through the eye. In this movement, the lever 31, which carries the pusher meets the latch plate 37 and moves it transversely thereby releasing it and allowing the spring 35 to return it to the position shown in Fig. 3. In doing this, the latch plate presses upon a leaf spring 36 and causes it to nip the thread that has been passed through the needle eye.
