Abstract
533,399. Electric control systems. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Nov. 2,1939, No. 29235. Convention date, Nov. 2, 1938. [Class 40 (i)] Apparatus for investigating the thermal insulation properties of walls &c. comprises an open-sided chamber of heat-insulating material, thermo-couples extending into the chamber, and an electric measuring instrument in series with the thermo-couples. As shown, the chamber comprises a base 10 with a rim 16 carrying rubber inserts 21 ensuring tight closure when the chamber is applied to a wall surface. Thermo-couples 14 have their junctions within and without the chamber, and are connected in series to a measuring instrument 15 on a member 13 supported by end members 11, 12 ; handles 17 are provided at the ends of the member 13 so as to be remote from the thermo-couples. In a modification, for use on ceilings &c. a handle extends at right angles from the member 13 and carries the measuring instrument and a stop watch or the like.
