Abstract

533,169. Actuation of switches. BRITISH THOMSON -HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Aug. 28, 1939, No. 24707. Convention date, Aug. 27, 1938. [Class 38 (v)] [Also in Group XXII] A movable contact 42 engageable with a spring- urged contact 40 with a wiping action, is separated against the action of an armature 43 and permanent magnet 44 of alloy disclosed in Specification 423,897, [Group II], by a rod 30 which is actuated by a lever 32 subjected to fluidpressure and to the control of an adjustable spring 36. The lever 32 is apertured to receive a shouldered pin 34 resting on a diaphragm 20, which is in the form of a cup of bronze or similar material inverted in a stepped recess in a hollow nut 13 to which it is soldered or brazed. The nut is originally provided at the top with projections, which are welded to the base plate 11 by passing a current through the two in contact so as to melt the projections. To prevent sudden pressure-changes from influencing the switch, the aperture 16 is closed by a disc 24 having a small orifice and held by spring ring 23.
