Abstract
532,772. Dynamometers. AUSTIN, H. E. Sept. 18, 1939, No. 26050. [Class 106 (ii)] [Also in Group XXV] A link 3 for use in a chain, cable or other device subjected to tension stress is provided with one or more divided transverse bridges 4, the variation in the width of the space 5 between the bridge parts due to elongation of the link being adapted to indicate when the safe working tension has been reached. Preferably, the spacing is dimensioned so that the ends of the bridge members abut and form a reinforcing strut when the tension limit has been reached. A visual or audible signal may be incorporated comprising a battery 6 the terminals of which are connected to insulated contacts 11 on the bridge members, and a light bulb 7 or electric bell. Alternatively, a mechanical indicator such as a movable finger may be used. The bridge members may be formed with tapered male and female ends for registering purposes.
