[Class 22] In the manufacture of refractory articles, more especially electrical insulators, ground non-plastic refractory oxides such as those of aluminium or magnesium or a mixture thereof are formed into a plastic mass by being mixed with a binder consisting of stearates or other suitable organic compounds of the metals, dissolved or suspended in turpentine, petrol, or other volatile organic liquid. After moulding, the mass is heated first between 300‹C. and 1200‹C., and finally fired at 1600‹C. to drive off the solvent and convert the organic salts into the corresponding oxides.
