Abstract
531,563. Gear-cutting JAGER. K., and BOPP & REUTHER GES. 'July 5, 1939, No. 19632. [Class 83 (iii)] In a machine for hobbing elliptical gear wheels the spindle f of the work g carries an elliptical master gear i rotated by a master worm s mounted in the tool carrier m which is moved to and from the work axis to generate the elliptical form by means of a master disc h on the work spindle co-acting with rotatable abutment q on the tool carrier. A weighted cable n maintains the abutment against the disc. The hob f which may be driven from a flexible shaft is mounted on a slide o movable vertically on the carrier m. Preferably the master wheel and the master disc are larger than the blank. For marking off the form of the disc h, Fig. 3, lines of length corresponding to the distance v are drawn from a number of points on the pitch ellipse of the blank in directions perpendicular to the tangents at such points. The form of the master gear i is obtained by prolonging radii of, the pitch curve of the blank, Fig. 2, to form a curve having radii which are increased in the same proportion as the pitch of the master gear teeth bears to the pitch of the blank teeth.
