Abstract

530,933. Drilling; drills. GIARDINO, J. July 6. 1939, No. 19727. [Class 83 (iii)] [Also in Group XXVI] A sealing device for the ends of split piston rings, in which the ends are received in spring - pressed bridging elements, is constructed so that the bridging element is of the same thickness as the ring. The spring is received in a recess in the piston, and the recess is drilled by means of a drill 32, fitted with an adjustable stop collar 33 adapted to engage the edge of a tubular guide 29 for the drill when the hole is at the required depth. The guide 29 is fitted with key elements 30 adapted to engage the grooves in the piston while the drilling takes place.
