Abstract

529,561. Knitting. HADDAN, R. (Scott & Williams, Inc.). June 15, 1939, No. 17524. [Class 74 (ii)] Relates to means for feeding elastic threads such as rubber along with relatively inelastic yarns such as wool to the needles of a multifeed knitting-machine under uniform tension to effect the plating of the inelastic over the elastic threads. Spools 8 carrying rubber &c. threads 9 are mounted on a bracket supported by a post 3 rising above the cam ring 1 of the machine. The threads 9 pass through eyelets 20, 21 carried by a bracket 12 and then between rotary intermeshing rolls 22, 23 and downwardly through an eyelet 24 fastened to a plate 5 on the post 3. From the eyelet 24 the thread 9 passes upwardly through an eyelet 25 carried by and movable with disc 18 and around a pulley carried by a disc 4. The thread 9 then passes upwardly over a pulley 27 and downwardly through eyelets 28, 29 carried by a neighbouring bracket 12, through rolls 14, 15 similar to 22, 23 and through another eyelet 30 carried by the plate 5. The thread then passes upwards to an eyelet 31 similar to 25, round a post or spindle 32 down through an eyelet 36 and so to the needles. The spindle 32 is detachably engaged with the roll 15 as shown in Fig. 2, the enlarged portion 34 being tapered to fit a recess 35. The diameter of the spindles 32 being small as compared with the rolls 14, 15, much more wool &c. 10 than unstretched rubber thread 9 is fed to the needles. The wool 10 is fed through eyelets 11, 13 on bracket 12, rolls 14, 15 and eyelets 16, 17, 19 to the needles. The effect of the two pairs of rolls 22, 23, 14, 15 is to remove all tension on the rubber threads, while the spindles 32 apply substantial uniform tension. Specification 196,262 [Class 74 (ii)], is referred to.
