[Class 146 (ii)] Apparatus for teaching mathematics comprises a series of elements each having a numeral characteristic, such as size, area, volume or weight, the elements being differently coloured according to its assigned numeral 1 to 9. Elements may be divided into sections coloured according to the number necessary to build the whole, or provided with coloured bands or zones, the colour depending on the position of the band in relation to the whole element. Boards may be used with differently coloured zones to indicate the number of elements in each zone. The colours 1 to 9 may be used as in Fig. 1 to represent the number of elements necessary to make a unit, in this case the colour 10 being the same as colour 1, or as in Fig. 2 to represent the number of units in each element.. In a modification, Fig. 3, each element is divided into equal zones coloured differently, the terminal colour denoting the number of units .in that element. Polygonal figures may be coloured according to the number of isosceles triangles they contain, or circles according to the number of equiangular sectors. Geometrical propositions may also be demonstrated. A key to the colours may comprise a board with cut-out numerals each with its characteristic colour.
