Abstract
528,885. Clutches. KLOCKE, W. May 16, 1939, No. 14625. Convention date, May 17, 1938. [Class 80 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXIV] In a friction plate for clutches and brakes comprising a body plate with a liner secured thereto, the liner 26 is in the form of a facing of metallic friction material 31 bonded to a metal backing plate 30 and is inserted in a groove 40 in the body plate 12, toothed means 33 being provided to interact between the side walls of the groove and the edges of the backing plate for uniting the liner and the body plate. In the construction shown, the driving-element of the clutch comprises a carrier 10 and plates 12 which are connected by means of notches 14 and ribs 15. Plates 20, 21 rotatably connected to a nut 18 are interleaved with the plates 12. Each of the plates 12 is formed with annular grooves 40 to receive liners 26. The liner may be mainly of copper and lead united to a sheet of steel by a welding or diffusion process. The backing plate has teeth 33 at either'or both edges which engage the edges of the groove 40 when the backing plate is forced into the plate 12. The inner face of the backing plate may be chamfered at the corners as shown at 44 and the groove 40 may be deepened as shown at 46.
