Abstract

528,385. Straightening flow in pipes &c. VOKES, C. G. April 26, 1939, No. 12524. [Class 99 (ii)] [Also in Groups XXVII and XXII] A device for straightening the flow of gases in pipes &c., particularly applicable to the induction pipe of an engine, is made from strips 1, 2 of metal which are first tinned and then one or more of them are corrugated, and the strips assembled alternately straight and corrugated in a frame, the whole being then heated to melt the solder, and then allowed to cool. The strips may be wound in a spiral and forced over a cylinder 5 and framework 6 by an aluminium clamp 7 before being heated. The strips may be of copper or an alloy. The corrugated strip may comprise crests and troughs which are rounded, or of V or trapezoidal shape. Where the pipe bends or is diverted, a modified form of device may be used consisting of a frame in which are assembled alternate lengths of straight and corrugated strips, with the corrugations inclined. According to the Provisional Specification, the strips may be made of the alloy known by the Registered Trade Mark "Monel" metal. Specification 408,963 is referred to.
