Abstract
526,904. Aircraft landing gear. TAMPIER, R. March 28, 1939, No. 9678. Convention date, April 8, 1938. [Class 4] A retractable three-wheeled undercarriage for aircraft comprising a front medial wheel and two side wheels is operated from two transverse shafts connected to a common drive, one shaft causing the front wheel to be moved in the longitudinal plane of the machine and the other shaft actuating the side wheels which are moved in a plane transverse to the machine. In the form shown, which is suitable for use with the arrangement of inclinable propellers described in Specification 526,899, the invention is applied to a three-engined aeroplane having a front landing-wheel 5 disposed centrally of the fuselage and side landing wheels 6 and 7 disposed respectively at the rear of the engine nacelles 1 and 2. A transverse shaft 11 carries at its ends frames 12, 13, each supporting an engine and a gear quadrant 32<1>, 33<1>, with which mesh level gear wheels 32, 33. Rotation of the shaft 11 thus causes shafts 30, 31, which are carried in bearings infixed frames 18, 19, to rotate about longitudinal axes and extend or retract the wheels 6 and 7 which are on offset portions of the shafts 30, 31. The shafts 30, 31, pass through clearance slots in bosses 26, 27 on the shaft 11. The front landing wheel 5 is carried on a transverse shaft 10 to which is fixed a toothed sector 48. The shafts 10 and 11 are driven from a motor 43 through the gearing shown. The invention may be carried out without any driving connection between the shaft 11 and the engine frames, in which case the gear quadrants 32<1> and 33<1> may be directly fixed to the shaft 11.
