[Class 52 (iv)] A handle for mattresses comprises a rigid stretcher bar slotted at each end, and a flexible strip having a rigid head at each end larger in one dimension than the slots, so that these heads can be threaded through the slots and turned through 90 degrees to lock them therein. As shown in Fig. 3, the rigid stretcher bar 7 situated inside the mattress 1 is provided at each end with two slots 6, 8 through which the ends of the flexible strip 2 forming the handle proper, are threaded and retained by enlargements 5 produced by folding the ends round metal U- pieces. The openings through the mattress are shrouded by eyelets 4. The eyelets may serve as ventilation openings and be masked by metal wire gauze. In a modification, Fig. 6, the eyelets 11 are secured to the stretcher bar and the enlarged ends 14 of the flexible handle 13 are threaded through the eyelets from the outside. The handle may be applied to finished mattresses by temporarily attaching curved stiletto 25, Fig. 12, to the stretcher bar 24 and piercing the mattress in the manner shown so as to locate the stretcher within the mattress, the flexible handle 32 and the eyelets 34 being threaded through and snapped into openings in the stretcher bar.
