Abstract
525,440. Coated fabrics. INTERNATIONAL LATEX PROCESSES, Ltd. Feb. 21, 1939, No. 5734. Convention date, Feb. 25, 1938. [Class 140] [Also in Group IV] Fibrous materials such as fabric, hides, natural or artificial or reconstructed leather, pasteboard and articles of fibrous material and rubber are coated by providing them with a coagulated layer derived from an aqueous rubber composition comprising unvulcanised rubber, natural or synthetic resin and insolubilized proteinous material and applying a finishing coating on the layer. The protein may be casein or haemoglobin and is insolubilized by formaldehyde either prior to or after application of the rubber composition. The finishing coating may comprise a natural or synthetic resin free from rubber or cellulose lacquer. A further coating of cellulose lacquer or synthetic resin may be appied. One or more priming coatings of an aqueous rubber composition free from resin but preferably containing a protein may be applied. A suitable composition comprises rubber latex, ammoniated casein, pigment and water. After drying, a second coating comprising rubber latex, ammoniated casein, formaldehyde and polyvinyl acetate is applied and followed after drying by a finishing coat of polyvinyl acetate and pigment in benzole. Plasticizers may be added if desired. Polyvinyl acetate may be replaced by a glycerol-phthalic acid anhydride resin.
