Abstract
525,082. Grab-forks; loading appliances. HARBERD, E. H. (Henzell, O. M.). Feb. 14, 1939, No. 4828. [Classes 78 (iii) and 78 (iv)] For picking up loads in long lengths such as sugar canes from the ground without extraneous matter, and depositing them on vehicles, an endless-track vehicle carries uprights on which arms 2 slide by means of rollers a, b, and are raised and lowered by a winch 4. Widelyspaced U-shaped tines 6, 6a are pivoted at the outer ends of these arms and normally are held by the pawl 6b, Fig. 5, with the limbs 6a substantially horizontal. In this position they are backed by the tractor into the canes until a full load has been engaged. The fluid-pressure rams 9 are then operated to lower the pivoted arms 7 to confine the load while the arms 2 are raised by the winch. When over the vehicle to be loaded, the pawl 6b is released by a pull-cord thus allowing the tines to tip forward and discharge the load.
