Abstract
524,383. Moulds; casting processes. WROE, T. K. Dec. 8, 1938, No. 35773. [Class 83 (i)] To avoid piping &c. heat is supplied to the fluid metal in an ingot or other mould a, feeder head b, or the like by surrounding it with heatgenerating material e in a walled cavity. This may comprise a flexible or rigid liner c made of, or lined or impregnated with, material not fusible at the casting temperature, such as asbestos mica, or colloidal clay. The material e may consist of an exothermic mixture, e.g. strontium, barium, aluminium, calcium, magnesium, silicon, sodium, potassium or silicon-carbide mixed with magnesium-oxide, alkali-halide, alkali silicate, barium-superoxide &c. or of a combustible material, e.g. coke, charcoal, or anthracite. In the latter case the head b may have holes f to let in air. The surface of the cast metal may be covered in known manner.
